Reminiscent of classic Georgian-era architecture of early 18th-century Europe with symmetrical, minimally ornamented features, the design of our Bedford Cabinet collection was based on an antique found in Southern England. Our artisans updated this inspirational piece with hand-applied, distressed finishes, which add interest to its classic yet transitional style. Maintaining the functionality and beauty of the original cabinet, our collection’s window-esque panels and doors feature hand-selected, antique glass with the natural texture and character-imbuing imperfections inherent to hand-crafted panes. Frames are constructed from solid spruce and spruce veneers and are complemented by hand-carved moulding and panel detailing. With two adjustable/removable shelves in each section, double upper cabinets provide a distinct display and solid, double, bottom cabinets offer hidden storage. All doors are adorned with decorative, brass pulls with an antiqued finish.
Our Bedford Collection is stocked in White Spruce, Black Spruce and Antique Brown finishes.
Layers of deep, rich paint are applied by hand to finish each piece. Then, artisans hand-distress certain areas, completely removing paint for a timeworn appearance.
A coat of lacquer then wax is hand-applied for additional protection, softness and sheen.
The White Spruce finish is created by applying a warm, brown-tone stain before hand-painting a layer of white, followed by a layer of grey. The entire piece is then distressed by hand to expose the color beneath.
The Black Spruce finish is created by applying a warm, brown-tone stain before hand-painting layers of black. The entire piece is then distressed by hand to expose the brown stain.
The Antique Brown finish is crafted by hand using fifteen layers of paint, which are then hand-distressed, resulting in a rich, aged appearance.
Handcrafted of solid spruce and spruce veneers, cabinets feature hand-carved moulding and panel detailing.
Hand-selected, antique glass panes are mounted in the top display cabinet’s window-esque doors and side panels.
Due to their hand-crafted nature, antique glass panes feature natural texture and imperfections, which add interest and character to the piece without affecting its performance. Variation from piece to piece is expected and makes each truly unique.
Both the top display cabinet and bottom cabinet feature two adjustable/removable shelves.
Decorative, brass cabinet pulls have an antiqued finish.
For daily maintenance, clean wood using a mild soap and water solution. Towel dry immediately.
Dust wood with a soft, dry cloth and buff periodically using a non-wax furniture polish such as Guardsman® Wood Polish.
Use clear BRIWAX® to maintain the finish. Apply once every several months with a soft cloth. Apply in small sections, thoroughly working the wax into the grain. Once dry, buff to desired luster.
Spills should be removed immediately with a damp cloth.
Do not use care products that contain ammonia or silicone as this will cut through the lacquer finish over time and damage your piece.
Use coasters, trivets and felt pads under objects to preserve the finish of this piece.
Never place hot dishes on surfaces; we recommend the use of felt-backed tablemats.
Prolonged use of hot electrical equipment on top of furniture may also cause scorching.
Always avoid exposure to direct sunlight or heat (e.g. by placing it in front of a radiator) as this can cause cracking and potential fading of the wood; a minimum 30 cm clearance from heat sources is advised.
Do not drag piece(s) across the floor as this will cause damage or weaken joints.
Dropping furniture onto corners or feet will cause damage.
Toys, buckles and heels will scratch furnishings—try to prevent these objects from coming into contact with your piece(s).
